Playtest (A5E) Level Up Playtest Document #10: Adept

Welcome to the 10th Level Up playtest document. This playtest contains a candidate for the first 10 levels of the game’s adept class. The adept is a renaming of the monk of O5E, and allows us to portray a wide variety of unarmed combatants.

I really wish you'd gone full on Arcana Unearthed and built all new classes with all new subclasses and themes......everything you need in one book. Alas, not the choice you made.

Not a fan of "adept" at all for this type of class.
There's always room for that in the sequel!!! :)

We’re making an advanced 5E, not a new game.

Like Monte Cook did in 3.x......not a new game....new classes that weren't backward compatible with existing ones.
Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed! The Diamond Throne! That was a pretty cool product.

While I'd love to see ENPublishing's take on an alternate D&D 5E in that vein . . . it seems odd to criticize Level Up for not being what it doesn't set out to be . . .

I'd only use the Adept name for a dedicated Psionic focused class myself.

This class is, from what I gather, to be the Unarmed Warrior class because the word Monk apparently is a bad word to use for some reason, even if Monk is still more accurate than Adept.

But based on all the class features, how it's trying to represent a Brutal, In-Your-Face, Martial Artist, Pugilist type of character...

Then try these possible class names...

Pugilist
Enforcer
Martial Artist
Vigilante
Brawler

Or, just stick with Monk.

Or make it part of the Fighter Class. Stripping out what made Monks Monks and making it more neutral just makes it feel like a Unarmed Fighter specialist.

It’s not a “bad” word at all. Where on earth did you pull that little nugget from? We certainly never said that. It’s just too narrow to describe a class which could include massive bearded hard-drinking wrestlers and Olympic-level atheletes. Monk will be an archetype, along with brawler and whatever we call the athlete type.

I didn't criticize it, I said I wished that's what it was. I've made my desire to buy this product clear on every social media platform, and share every tweet Morrus makes.
