Speaking of the Office, I had to break the rules and go with the U.K. version. I remember folks telling me about this hilarious show and that I had to catch it. Was not very funny or interesting. I later saw that there was a U.K. version. Out of curiosity I gave it shot. Super funny and much much better than the U.S. version.

community was great. except the final season. That was meh (despite me being a huge Keith David fan)
Taxi has to be top 5
Eastbound and Down
That 70s Show
In Living Color

Several of my top 10 are British (Like Inbetweeners or IT Crowd or Borderline or Whose Line is it Anyway or Faulty Towers), but you said only American, so I won't list them all

I've always disliked Seinfeld. It is just not my kind of comedy.

But what I do like:

Married with Children
Bottom
Frasier
Scrubs
Roseanne
Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Snarf Zagyg

Notorious Liquefactionist
If British stuff was allowed there wouldn't be to many American shows in the top 5 or maybe ten.

Maybe! They are very, very different. Spaced is not Community. Yes, Minister (or Yes, Prime Minister) is not All in the Family. Fawlty Towers is not The Bob Newhart Show. Peep Show is not Arrested Development.

... they can just be very different (and culturally specific, at times) sense of humor.

Besides, I wouldn't want to be mean to the British shows. Sure, I've been called a xenophobe in these threads, but the truth is I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and all the other countries aren't as good.

I'm thinking shows more like Red Dwarf, Blackadder, The Inbetweeners, Bottom and pretty much anything from the 80's or 90's with Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson or Rowan Atkinson.

Community, Parks and Recand Married With Children could compete perhaps;).
