Even if subraces are done like individual races, I don't think they will each individually count as a race, because between the Genasi, Aasimar, and Gith's subraces alone, you would have nearly a third of the 30 race slots taken if they did (there are 9 subraces between those 3 races in 5e so far).

I'm strongly of the idea Tieflings should be a Planetouched race of any Fiendish background (like they were before 4e) including Demons, Yugoloths, Hordelings, Night Hags, Demodands/Gehreleths, Rakshasa, etc or just a Lower Planar Radiation Mutation, so I feel they should either be one race with many "pick anyone of these options" or divided along Devil/Demon/Yugoloth/Etc lines.

They kind of are both honestly, there is still the SCAG variant Tieflings. Still the way they have it now could confuse people, because you have the old school variants in the SCAG,the 4e style in the PHB, and the new Archdevil based Tieflings in MToFs.

I'd bet good money that there are at least two aasimar in this book.

Possibly, but that doesn't mean they will be counted separately. They could organize the book by race, but have structured multiple races in an individual race section. Given its coming in January I hope for more details in December.

Lizardfolk
Minotaur
Orc
Tabaxi
Tiefling
Triton
Yuan-Ti

SCAG or EEPC or One Off
Elf
Genasi
Gnome
Goliath
Dwarf
Half-Elf
Halfling
Tortle

New?

There's 29 right there and I probably missed some.

If we see any of those in the Fizban template, thats your list.

Stuff like Plasmiod is most certainly for a setting book AFTER MP: MotM is released, this is for races release BEFORE MP: MotM so it up to Strixhaven (Owlin).

And you forgot Grungs and Locaths.

Probably, in some combination yeah. Giff monster block is in MToF though, so...yeah whatever.

The what? lol

Just looked, and yes these would be like Tortle, and probably should be in.

I feel that since a Shifter is sort of a Half-Lycanthrope and a Changeling is basically a Half-Doppelganger. They're generic enough to get in, as they are not be tied to anything really specific about Eberron.

Shifter at least is official in the Forgotten Realms and Nerath settings at least. T

And in 4e Doppelgangers and Changelings were treated as the same thing (functional Changelings replaced traditional Doppelgangers in 4e, including in FR), so they too have a presence in FR. FR even had a Changeling (half Doppelganger Template) in 3e/3.5e.
