The video below from Nerd Immersion delves into the races in more detail.

4e and 3e (bo9S) did it... why can't they take those two ideas and build on theM?
That's the mystery to me. Now that they're showing they're willing to walk back a lot of the elements put into place to appeal to nostalgia and 'legacy' via the playtest, why not go back to the well of things they intentionally left out for those reasons. There's no longer a need to dance around Warlords.

hey wasn't someone looking for the bludgeon... "I have fun so screw you" is such a weird mindset
Who said screw anyone? But with the 5E Battlemaster, WotC produced an option that works for some 4E Warlord players. They didn't leave it off entirely, even if they can't please everyone.

Perhaps they’ll even bring back damage on a miss for great weapon fighters! 😅

I mean, they could, if they wanted to: but that's not the dirction he game took as they have surveyed the larger fanbase. 5E is focused on TotM combat, which is what we did in 3E in spite of the roadblocks the system put up. Complexity can only go so far with that framework.

So ignoring another 4e warlord discussion.

I assume aasimar is going to allow you to choose which manifestation (protector, scourge, fallen) at some interval. Ditto with shifter shifting. It would make them both a little more flexible IMHO.
