In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options from the Dragonlance setting. This playtest document presents the kender race, the Lunar Magic sorcerer subclass, the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, and a collection of new feats, all for use in Dungeons & Dragons.

Kender have a (surprisingly magical) ability to pull things out of a bag, and a supernatural taunt feature. This magical ability appears to replace the older 'kleptomania' description -- "Unknown to most mortals, a magical phenomenon surrounds a kender. Spurred by their curiosity and love for trinkets, curios, and keepsakes, a kender’s pouches or pockets will be magically filled with these objects. No one knows where these objects come from, not even the kender. This has led many kender to be mislabeled as thieves when they fish these items out of their pockets."

Lunar Magic is a sorcerer subclass which draws power from the moon(s); there are notes for using it in Eberron.

Also included are feats such as Adepts of the Black, White, and Red Robes, and Knights of the Sword, Rose, and Crown.

I love the change to Kender. I find it HILARIOUS that all along Kender were innocent of being thieves and how stuff ended up in their pockets leaving them confused now makes sense, it's some magical Prank by the Feywild (or a god) on the Kender.

I'll have to look into if classic DL had any analog to the Feywild.

Btw the changes will likely be explained by the upcoming DL novels I imagine, the way the Drizzt novels are building to changes detailed in a FR setting book.

Krynn courts are about to be filled with Kender suing for slander

Steel was a silly concept for coinage anyway. There is no way, other than with handwaveium, that steel is worth more than gold. (though if anyone wants to point me to a historical example, I'm all ears).
in modern times, oil? Roman times, salt?

<Edit> Anyways, I think using steel is a interesting story construct that tells us a lot about the people and times.

”Gold? Why would I want that worthless metal? Sure, it shines all pretty, but what can you make with it? A ring, a necklace? Steel, on the other hand - it makes weapons that kill your enemies and protects you from them doing the same to you. Got enough extra to waste on making coins out of it? You must truly be a rich and powerful warlord to follow!”

Yup. Jean Rabes run, the age of….I can’t remember. Age of….mortals? The age where there were MEGA DRAGONS and WEIRD MOONS and MERCENARY SWORDSMEN WHO HAVE DRAGON SCALES IMBEDDED IN THEIR LEGS
Then they really haven't tried it. They need to change the lore in the game, not in some novels that many, if not most of us haven't read.

Dragonlance does have some kind of Feywild like plane, and even something that resembles a Domain of Delight surprisingly.

Two approaches for Dark Sun defiling:

Universal temptation. Any time an arcane spell uses the highest slot, it destroys water and plantlife within a certain range.

Free setting feat. Where other feats are psionic talents, the defiler and the preserver instead choose their own respective feats. The preserver learns how to use the highest spell slot safely, and even to create water and plantlife. The defiler learns to intentionally destroy nearby water and plantlife, if available, to heighen spells.
