In today’s Unearthed Arcana, we explore character options from the Dragonlance setting. This playtest document presents the kender race, the Lunar Magic sorcerer subclass, the Knight of Solamnia and Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds, and a collection of new feats, all for use in Dungeons & Dragons.

Kender have a (surprisingly magical) ability to pull things out of a bag, and a supernatural taunt feature. This magical ability appears to replace the older 'kleptomania' description -- "Unknown to most mortals, a magical phenomenon surrounds a kender. Spurred by their curiosity and love for trinkets, curios, and keepsakes, a kender’s pouches or pockets will be magically filled with these objects. No one knows where these objects come from, not even the kender. This has led many kender to be mislabeled as thieves when they fish these items out of their pockets."

Lunar Magic is a sorcerer subclass which draws power from the moon(s); there are notes for using it in Eberron.

Also included are feats such as Adepts of the Black, White, and Red Robes, and Knights of the Sword, Rose, and Crown.

There are possible reasons to stop the use of firearms. One of them is religius, the barbarians who use them aren't allowed to enter the Valhala, and spellcasters can find ways with low level magic, for example summoning swarms, but also creating little pieces of ectoplasm to block canons or to "water" gunpowder and other explosive materials. Dragons, giants and other sentient creatures wouldn't allow that technology the ordinary humanoids would be too powerful. Capital cities could use a magic field where the firearms don't work.

It would be interesting the idea of a new class mixing gunslinger(pathfinder) and warmage(3.5 class), but instead daily vacian spells using "mysteries", something like the ki martial maneuvers, but spell-like abilities and ranged attacks, in the middle between at-will and once-encounter.

There is enough space for "cavaliers" as subclass. I would like a D&D knight class, like the cavalier from Pathfinder, but we would need something to be different. Maybe getting the martial maneuvers of the "crusader", the 3.5 class.

* The spelljammer helms to trade would rather to stop in certain "cosmopolitan" places, and the main worlds aren't visited by these, even when native could buy products from other systems.

* What if "Chaos" could create their own draconians/dragonspawns based in the planar dragons from internal planes?

* Other idea is a new "isekai variant". A teenage native from Krynn loves the legends about the heroes of lance, and some day she awakes in a different body, now she is one of the heroes, maybe Tika, Laurana, Goldmoon.. or Kitiara! (or a female version of Tas...or Sturm) But really she hasn't reincarnated into the past, but she is now in a special demiplane, a mixture of "akasha-dream realm" and domain of delight. She is in a "theme park" imitating the past. This place is created by the collective memory and imagination, working like a "reboot". This would allow to test new ideas, but the original canon and timeline would keep being the same.

M&H weren't very happy when lord Soth was sent to Ravenloft setting, but Sithicus is still an interesting concept. Maybe there is a Sithicus domain, but not in the demiplane of dread, but as dark somain in Krynnspace-shadowfell. Who said there is not more death knights beside lord Soth? If if gods wanted to punish him, they have got a "source of inspiration". M&H should be consultated about this.

Speaking of Firearms, I hope one day for an official D&D setting with firearms integrated in the base logic.
  • gunpowder firearms
  • alchemical firearms
  • arcane firearms
  • fancy crossbows
  • holy hand grenades
  • protection from missile spells
  • gunslinger and heavy gunner subclasses
  • bulletproof barbarians
  • Elves being too snobby and sticking with arcane archers
  • overwatch and suppression fire rules
then you could planewalkback to Krynn with all these crazy gimmicks.

To me, draconians are at best tragic. But, mostly they're just demons. They might be interesting, they might be great to use, but, at the end of the day, we don't need to make them anything other than what they are - demons. And the whole "well if we use this horrible ritual on evil dragon eggs, you get good draconians" is just mind bogglingly stupid. No, what you get is EVEN WORSE draconians. Alignment is not polarity of a battery. It cheapens the whole thing.
Agreed.

Best firearm rules I've seen for D&D is that gunpowder/smokepowder whatever you want to call it, is made from dragon dung. Which makes it expensive, rare, and a really neat idea.

Would actually, funnily enough, dovetail nicely with Dragonlance. :D Maybe we could change Dragonlances to firearms. That would be pretty cool actually.
