Spelljammer D&D Direct Live Report: 9am PDT (5pm BST) SPELLJAMMER CONFIRMED! DRAGONLANCE!

D&D Direct, WotC's new video-format announcement show launches today at 9am PDT (5pm BST). If you aren't able to watch it, I'll be updating this article live. Feel free to comment below! • MMO Neverwinter video. Dragonslayer begins June 2022. (I wonder if they'll need a dragonance for that?)
• New D&D actual play video, Legends of the Multiverse. Lots of 80s cartoon style soft rock music. Boo is in it.

Glad I’m finally hearing people complain about a price increase not unlike hearing people complain about postage stamps going up 2 cents. Others are upset, I’m not, I’m fine with the prices we know so far and what I will get when I buy it.

Yeah definitely a rip off. Not like those 2e boxed sets with multiple fragile softcover side stapled booklets or perfect bound ones that would come unglued from their bindings stuffed in a half empty box hat that would get banged up and crushed by hardcovers in your duffel bag on the way to game. Give me that any day instead of sturdy hardcovers in a slipcase!

For real though. I would much rather have a slipcase set these days than a boxed set. Only way a boxed set makes more sense is if you have smaller items included with it like dice or cards or what have you.

I’d rather have a single hardcover book.

Three book gimmick aside, I'm not surprised by the price increase. Printing costs have got to be going up with all the pandemic era supply chain disruptions, and the books were low margin to begin with. Mark it down as another sign of the inflationary times.

Yeah but that would have been $30-$35 on a $50 hardcover, $40 at most. This won’t dip below $45.

Not "no benefit" - people have been complaining for a while about having the player options and the DM options in the same book.

"No benefit to me personally" because I'm not in that group - I'd rather have them all in one place - but I can see how it would benefit those folks.

Literally no benefit on digital, and that's only arguably a benefit to a tiny minority of groups with badly behaved players. Pretty ludicrous argument imho.
