The map of the Academy is killer. Classic Will Doyle. He's a gift.

Adventure isn't really my style personally but I bet my players would get a kick out of it.

I think the format of a free intro adventure on DND Beyond for every published product is smart -- if they choose to go that way.

I've been planning to write an adventure after I finish my Realmspace Traveller's Guide for DMsGuild.

Strangely, the adventure that I brainstormed might be a very fitting sequel to the Spelljammer Academy adventures, even though it'll take a much darker tone than what seems to be the tone for Spelljammer Academy. The amnesia-themed way that Spelljammer Academy is beginning gives a lot of room to retcon whatever lore they present in Spelljammer Academy as well so lore compatibility might not be an issue; I might not have to change any lore planned for my Guide either.

The Mirt entry in Orientation may have increased the possibility of it all being unreal...

I can kinda see a character or special NPC having one (with all the complications of "I will kill you so hard you will die to death"see pic)

But the thing that raised my eyebrow was that the guards have them. I mean sure, for certain levels/styles of game...

1- I think of superboy prime saying that...
2- the idea of putting such a scary weapon in my monsters hand (do not collect for passing go just go right to dead) but PCs wont really get a big power up
3- even though it isn't a big power up it can FEEL cool

The disintegration swords are a bit much. Sheesh.
I seem to remember that Elves of the Armada had these as standard issue, but I can't find a reference in my 2E materials.

Considering it only kills someone already at 0 hp and you've got to make the guard's hit list, I'm fine with these weapons - even if they got into PCs hands somehow (word gets around, I'm sure there'll be plenty who want to take them, and disarm is a thing...).

I can't imagine you needing to take it away. most things die at 0 anyway... so all it does is take away the body... BUT it will feel like they hit extra hard eventhough it is still just 1 dead orc

It kinda mimics an ability/lore of the most evil weapons from my games, the ones that destroy your soul and prevent "Raise Dead" etc*.

Much like the weapons in Steven Brust's Jhereg series, its evil, illegal, used by assassins to perma kill if they dont like you or were paid to..(you should really read Jhereg).

Disintegration brings the same effect...and lore which could be considered much the same way....with no body, healing and/or raising magic doesn't work. Spare the Dying, Revivify, Raise Dead, Resurrection, etc.

Now I am well aware its a flavor I am projecting on the weapons, so in other campaigns thats fine.

It just made me raise the proverbial eyebrow.
