D&D 5E Blue ONE, An attempt at a TRUE 5e Basic version

Ditch the rogue, save the cleric. ;)

I love the (actually) streamlined monsters. One of the consistent complaints I've had with attempts to simplify or "old-school" 5e is that they always focused on the player side, so you'd get fewer races, fewer classes, fewer class abilities, no feats, etc., but then even the lowly kobold still needed their special abilities. Like, how can we possibly expect the DM to have these creatures fight as a pack unless we give them a special ability called "Pack Tactics"?!? So I appreciate the effort you put in on the DM side. Thumbs up!

Yeah, if I were to have a cleric class, Id base it on the warlock chassis, to represent the type of character beholden to a higher power for their magic

I've updated a revised copy, for those interested.

Changes:
  • Classes consolidated to 1 page. An additional fighting style (leader) added. Some new rogue abilities
  • GM kit added to the end in appendices
  • Some flavor options to lair actions for dragons by types, to spark some creativity
  • Restructured the sections a bit, with a heading page for each main section
  • Added average HP per monster

In contrast, I love that there isn't a Cleric class.
The problem is that this falls into the same trap that hundreds of designers have already fallen into.

They say they update (or condense) the original rules, but upon closer inspection they can't resist bringing their own personal tweaks into the game.

Either it's a true "basic" edition, complete with every main feature WotC decided to put in (and with no main feature WotC didn't include), never second-guessing the original authors' intent; or it is your personal vanity project that presupposed to "fix" the "errors" of the edition in question (and there sure is a lot of them).

Please don't market the latter as the former.
