I jumped ship to Pathfinder on Second Edition's release (you see me around here mostly for the General DND type conversations that have the overlap), looking at the poll, welcome to the potential new people to my fave system?

Not exactly a surprise that the top result for switching from 5e is the most 5e-like of all presented options. DCC and OSE aren't even up there. Did you expect a sudden spike in Dungeon World interest?

I'm not OP, but I actually expected more representation for just about every option on the poll-- a subset of people running for a slew of PBTA games, Cortex, Fate, etc.

I actually happened to buy OSE Advanced Fantasy literally five minutes before you mentioned it though, funny enough, it would never be a full switch due to my group's tastes but I've been wanting to try some OSR as a novelty and for educational reasons, I actually had DCC from a humble bundle somewhere here as well.

I'm not going D&D 5E again without a pretty serious climbdown, and it's honestly a pity, because I was intending to run a Shadow of the Dragonlords campaign and come back to 5E after I'd stopped for a year or so.

I'm not sure what I'll run instead. Keep going with Spire for sure for now but I did want to do some epic fantasy. Hmph.

Just run it with a different system.(y)

What this book presupposes is -- maybe he didn't?
I'm about to be playing in a Pathfinder 2e game. If I were running a fantasy game, it'd either be one of the older editions of D&D (1st, 3rd), Warhammer Fantasy 2e, Swords of the Serpentine, Burning Wheel, or Torchbearer 2e. Then again, I'm not so much jumping ship as finally getting onboard again.

The only WotC product I would have considered buying in the foreseeable future is a new Dark Sun book. Even then I'd most likely port it to another system.

I genuinely wonder if we're going to hit a point where playing 5e/OneD&D/etc. is stigmatized. Not just by long-time haters like me, but by a bigger portion of the hobby. Once certain brands become toxic enough (Big Tobacco, Facebook, etc) they never really recover. They can still make money, for sure, but not like they used to.
If you want a Dark Sun book to port to another system just get the 4e one.
