Did someone say .... bomb?

Somebody set us up the bomb

A: I have a problem and need some solutions.

B: Here are some solutions.

A: I refuse to use them.

B: Well, cool. Best of luck solving your entirely self-inflicted problem, then. Since, you know, you're not actually looking for solutions to your problem.

I've been trying to get into online games in the wake of the OGL turmoil, and I'd forgotten what it's like trying to get a group together with total strangers. Got invited into an existing group yesterday, made my character all ready for the next session on Saturday, and this evening's chat on their Discord consisted of one player getting on another's back for missing the last session, saying he was barely any better than "those players who quit after 1 session", and the other player saying "fine, I'm outta here" and leaving the server.

Needless to say, I did not stick around.

don't worry, with Onednd you will be able to have that same experience for $10/month!

I'm completely clueless how this works. Does one find games like this with total strangers on discord or roll20?

Roll20 has a "Join a Game" page which features all groups currently looking for players. You can filter it by various factors including game system, which day(s) you can play and rough starting time.

This is my first time using it - I've played several games on Roll20 in the past couple of years, but they were all with people I already knew. This is my first time looking to join a new group since I first joined a local face-to-face RPG club over 20 years ago.

"I have a problem" --> "Here's a solution" --> "No not like that" is basically the workflow of every engineering project ever.

To be fair, sometimes that's simply a case of not presenting the problem completely. Sometimes when the problem is presented, its extremely obvious that it wants to make two pieces or rope meet in the middle that, well, don't, or otherwise has criteria that are impossible to all meet, but usually its less of a a case of someone not really wanting a solution than being bad at presenting the problem in full.
