D&D (2024) New One D&D Playtest Shows Us The New Druid & Paladin

Druid. The Druid class and Circle of the Moon subclass are ready for playtesting here.

Paladin. The Paladin class and Oath of Devotion subclass are ready for playtesting here.

Feats. Several revised feats appear here for your feedback, with more revised feats coming in future articles.

Spells. More spells are ready for playtesting, with a focus on smite spells, Find Familiar, and Find Steed.

Rules Glossary. The rules glossary has been updated again and supersedes the glossary in previous Unearthed Arcana articles. In this document, any underlined term in the body text appears in that glossary, which defines game terms that have been clarified or redefined for this playtest or that don’t appear in the 2014 Player’s Handbook.

My overall reaction to this playtest packet is p much the same as the previous ones, which is that there’s some stuff I like, some stuff I don’t, but NOTHING that makes me say “Oh, yeah, THIS is why we need a new edition.”

Still doesn’t feel like it serves any real need that 5E either isn’t already serving or couldn’t with like one Tasha’s-style update book instead of re-launching all the core books.

Not in my books... it totally changed the philosophy from rules light and TotM to battlemap integration (probably to pave the way for VTTs).
I don't know what you mean by this? DO you think 1d&D or 3.5 is more min /VTT intensive? I assume you mean 1D&D since I at least did not hear of much VTT in 2005
And as I said: we don't know the extend of the changes right now. So putting lables other than 1D&D is not a good idea. Lets talk about this in 2 years.

No. You said, if I understood you correctly, that 3.5 changes were just as much as one playtest packed, which I vehemently refuse, because ot really change the way D&D was played by default (look at cover and concealment changes, standardizations, drawing lines). It was not until 5e, that it was dialed back.
If OneD&D once again tries to move away from TheaterOfTheMind towards VTT, I would happily call it 6e or 7e, but I don't see that right now.

I feel much the same way, save for the first playtest packet. The new species/background rules are a vast improvement over 2014 IMO. Everything since then has been meh. I'd rather they put in the new species/background rules, implement the Tasha Ranger changes, tweak or change a few of the PHB subclasses, and call it a day.

that is correct, the expert one is the one I was thanking of... although if you added the cleric to this one it could be too, but I don't want to pick and choose
which I vehemently refuse,
and I'm sorry but I can't disagree more

exhustion, backgrounds, classes, when you get feats,

Yeah - I agree with the changes to species & backgrounds, but I still feel like one "Droop's Guide to Who You Are" rules supplement book could handle that.

exhustion, backgrounds, classes, when you get feats,

I appreciate your opinion and accept that we just have to disagree about how we weight each individual change...

and this is a good thing, exactly what I want to say: it is totally individual, what constitutes a full edition change, not some lable you can put on it.
