Would be nice to know how many of the people who dislike it so much also dislike 5e

I'm of the view that 1D&D, is just more of 5e, or at least, what 5e has become in the last few years.

I'm not particularly interested in that, and either want more of what Pathfinder has, or Shadowdark levels of streamline. 5e's desire to try and ride the fence just isnt working for me anymore.

5e is still working for me. PF is to much and though I am interested in Shadowdark, I think we need a bit more than what it appears to offer. Though there things we could definitely burrow from it

That more or less what I'm talking about.

5e doesn't have much to grip a veteran player. Once you learn the system, you really see what is lacking. It was designed for older DMs to run with noobs. Once the players aren't new, you want to buy 3pp's product or switch to another game because it wasn't designed for the newer generations.

That's an interesting take.

I'm a veteran player, and I'm not looking for a system to "grip" me. I'm looking for great adventures and great DMing and great storytelling to grip me. I just need a lightweight, flexible system that allows that. 5e does, for the most part, although it has rough edges that are starting to annoy me.

Like I said upthread, I'm actually moving toward simpler RPGs.

While I have never wanted, let alone sought out,, simplicity in my gaming. Takes all kinds.
