D&D (2024) What spells should be dropped?

I stand corrected. Just seen a Jem tweet that says it is rules as intended not to shoot arrows out. Doesn’t help with glaives and reach weapons, cunning actions to leap in and out and all the other shenanigans a wall that’s impervious to one side but not the other can do though.
I have a rule about silly buggers, If the players pull off some shenanigans, I will tell them outright that, that was very clever but to take care in its use, because I can do shenanigans also.

I would vote to remove chill touch. It has the worst name in the game, as it’s neither cold damage or a touch.

But it shuts down regeneration hard, removing the mini game of having to figure out or have the right tools to do it. It becomes a weirdly strong ability at high levels against regenerating creatures, way more than a cantrip should.

So the fighter in plate can now stealth reasonably well, and that was good enough for me
I don't think so. Even with advantage, the odd still against tin cans, especially there's a new rule that, to stealth you have to pass a DC15 check first. After that your stealth still need to be higher than enemies's passive perception.

I think Wish should split.

Monkey Paw part is now an artifict, not a spell. DMs can hand it out if they want, and any player, not just casters, can make bad wishes.

Cast any spell part gets a new name, like Universal Arcana.

Wind Walk at level 6 checks out for me. Movement speed of 300, and flavor text to make an easy fast-talk-the-DM roll for effective invisibility. (whispy clouds). I'd roll the full benefits of gaseous form explicitly into it (squeezing/etc), and keep it at 6th. That speed of movement/overland travel is a scenario-breaking ability.

I also think you could easily remove about half of the spells in the game with little noticeable impact, once you consider how many spells are minor variations or just seldom taken. Possibly three quarters.

And I know that, whatever spell you mention, you will get folks on a forum like this claiming that it is the best spell ever because reasons. I see a LOT of character sheets, though, and the reality is that a relative handful of spells see 90% of the action.

An interesting exercise is to make a list of just the vital spells for each class, the ones that are must-haves.

Simulacrium. I don't see how you do that in a "as thematic" and not-broken way... maybe if they shared spell slots with the caster you could pull it into a usable spell, but even then...

I believe it just druid's version of Teleportation Circle. It is druid's fast travel spell. I think how broken this spell depend on how much DM emphasize the travel part.

Yes

A dome of force that I can see through of but you can’t.

That I can move through but you can’t

That I can shoot arrows throw but you can’t

That can last for 8 hours and only takes a minute to cast. It is the most powerful defensive spell in the game that would revolutionize/imbalance warfare in every single world it existed.

It’s a terribly balanced spell in its current incarnation that needs removing or seriously modifying. I.e don’t make the wall impervious to other creatures and make it opaque to everyone.

Yep, except it also lets you "teleport" to places you don't know about except via directions/"map marker", and teleport/tree stride/etc don't. Outside of the travel element, it's an overleveled/underspecified/fast-talk-required gaseous form.
