D&D 5E (2014) Planescape, Bigby, Phandelver and the Deck of Many Things: Covers & Details Revealed!

The covers of the upcoming D&D books — including Planescape, Glory of the Giants, and the Deck of Many Things have been revealed.

• August 15th -- Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants ($59.95)
• August 15th -- The Practically Complete Guide to Dragons ($39.95)
• September 19th -- Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk ($59.95)
• October 16th -- Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse ($TBA)
• November 14th -- Book of Many Things ($TBA)

Not sure about Reborn being recast as a specifically "Planescape" race, but I could definitely see a strong case for them being treated as more setting neutral overall. Same with the other lineages from Ravenloft, frankly - sure, they're gothic horror themed, but the underlying ideas of "a little bit vampire", "a little bit hag", and "a little bit undead/Frankenstein's Monster" can be worked into a lot of different settings.

I've had a reborn Planescape concept percolating in my head for a while now - basically someone who willingly(-ish) sacrificed themselves as part of an Odin-style ritual to gain knowledge/power and then woke up after being dead for several days as a reborn warlock.

I don't think that their being in the book would make them I jerently Pla escape...because Planrscape menas Everything Goes. But running into a pseudo-undead person of some sort seems on theme in. Etween all the Outer Planes filled with the dead souls. Think the Nameless.

It's worth noting that the 5E Reborn are inherently reflavored by player choice from a lost: making a more Planescapey, less Gorhic, list including options like einharjr would make sense.

Yup, they seme to be centering Torment in this set, and how would you make the Nameless One in 5E, if not as a Reborn?

To further support that prediction, back in 2017 they released in Dragon+ some 5e adaptations of monsters that first appeared in PS: Torment: https://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/dragon/Creatures_PSTEE.pdf

I would say the same of the Thri-Kreen, for example. Whatever sort of approach they might take to a unified PC options presentation in the future, having options that fit multiple places makes sense.

Sure, but this is 5e where we only sort of have psionics....I even have goblins I painted blue (one of which is mounted on a dire bite mini) from back in the day. I used psionics some......did we know these goblins were psionic? because that's what my email from dndbeyond says.
