As opposed to other editions of D&D?
Most of them, yes.

5E is designed so that 99% of combat is a foregone conclusion.
4E is designed so that 99% of combat is a foregone conclusion.
3E...never played so don't know, but I hear the phrase "rocket tag" quite a lot in reference to this one.
AD&D2E is designed so that combat is effectively random and depends on the players' decisions more than the mechanics.
AD&D is designed so that combat is effectively random and depends on the players' decisions more than the mechanics.
BECMI / RC is designed so that combat is effectively random and depends on the players' decisions more than the mechanics.
B/X is designed so that combat is effectively random and depends on the players' decisions more than the mechanics.
OD&D is designed so that combat is effectively random and depends on the players' decisions more than the mechanics.

I don't know if this has been posted here already but I got a kick out of it

"I can't believe I spent 35 dollars on a cookbook that doesn't have a recipe for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. When I buy a cookbook, I expect it to tell me how to cook. And don't tell me to just make a PBJ myself, I'm not some sort of hippy artist pretentious 'freeform cook.' "

Ah, yes. Another reminder that Elon's great experiement in requiring a Twitter account, in order to view a Twitter post, has self-destructed in grand fashion.

When you see someone you have been on the verge of blocking for years reply to a post three times in a row, I can only assumed they are quoting someone else I have blocked. Or else they have simply decided to weed out the part where they wait for other people to reply before they post the same crap they always post over and over.

This is very mistaken.

Combat in Adnd was far less dangerous than in later editions. The only reason adnd combat was swingy is due to the proliferation of save or die effects. After about 4th level it was very hard to kill an adnd party in combat.
