D&D General JMISBEST's questions. Most of them about campaign ideas that either he or A GM he knows has and wants to know what people think

Out of boredom 8 minutes ago I decided to use the rules A mate mate for creating the newly acquired Fiefdom of A Npc that has earned the A Knighthood that can afford to buy A Fiefdom to go with it that has bought A Fiefdom to go with it in Adventurer Conqueror King. What do you think of the domain I created?

PS to those are wondering? yes A Fiefdom is to A Knight what A Domain is to A Noble

A 2D100 roll of A 14 means theirs A Budget of 1D6x1,000+32,000 or 36,000 Gold Coins

So here's what I go

A small Manor House surrounded by A Tiny Farming Estate that can have up to 15 families. 1,000x2.5 or 2,500 Gold Coins

3 Large Villages that can each have up to 75 families. 4,500x3 or 13,500 Gold Coins

4 decent sized Roadside Inns that can each have 1 Family. 200x4 or 800 Gold Coins

19 decent sized large farms that can have up to 2 families. 1,000x19 or 19,000 Farms

That costs 35,800 Gold Coins

And

It leaves me with 200 Gold Coins

Population stuff

A 1D100 roll of A 84 followed by A 1D100 roll of A 35 means that the initial number of immigrants is 40D10 families -7D10 families or 281 families -49 families or 232 families

And

I assign the families as so

A small Manor House surrounded by A Tiny Farming Estate that has 15 families and can have up to 15 families.

1 Village that has 45 families that can have up to 75 families

2 Villages that can both have 65 families that can both have up to 75 families

4 small Roadside Inns that all have 1 family and can all have up to 1 Family

And

19 decent sized large farms that all have up to 2 families

The rulers Title

He is A Fairly Senior Landed Knight ruling A Massive Agricultural Fiefdom

Total earnings per month

1,225 +232 +464 +232 +232 or 2,385 Gold Coins per month

Total Costs per month

232 +173 +696 +1,047 or 2,158 Gold Coins per month

Profit

227 Gold Coins per month

Garrison

31 0 level Men At Arms, 11 1st level Clerics, 3 2nd level Fighters, 1 2nd level Cleric and 1 4th level Fighter

I've done a fair amount of work on "how much revenue can estate generate", but I can't comment because I don't know some details about how your game economy works. What is the total population size, and what is the daily income of a labourer?

Population wise its 232 families

Every family individually have between 3 members and 7 members each

To simply things any and all domains that at least 1 Pc has a position of power in, which doesn't have to be the ruler, has a mathematical average of 5 members per family

When working out the domains population in order to make it simple you work out the overall population, which doesn't include things like the ruler, the rulers family, the garrison, the rulers advisors and The Pcs, by multiplying the number of families by the mathematical average of 5 members per family

To cut a long story short because the domain I mentioned in this thread has 232 families in it it has a total population of 1,160 civilians, 47 soldiers that guard it and if he has 1 the rulers familes and if the ruler has a family before getting a domain

I will say that depending on his age, race, after all other races can earn domains in human lands, and the result of A 1D100 roll followed by A 3D10 roll his or her family can consist of anywhere between only his or her partner and his or her partner, 1 niece he adopted, 1 nephew he adopted 3 sons, 3 daughters, 3 daughters in law, 3 sons in law, 7 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 7 granddaughters in law, 7 sons in law, 2 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter

A few hours ago I found my notes that are over 21 and a half years old on what was all 3 of my only 2nd edition Dnd Campaign, the 2nd Dnd Campaign I ever did and the only solo Dnd Campaign I ever played in, sadly more of them were lost over the last more the 21 and a half years and to be honest the only reason so many notes survived is that many years ago I typed up as many of them as I could on a computer and before I did most were lost. Still here's what I could pierce together. What do you think?. Also on 5 occasions I've spotted and corrected 1 or 2 mistakes. Sorry

The character A Slave Gladiator that I used in A 2nd edition Dnd Campaign that like I said was all 3 of my only 2nd edition Dnd Campaign, the 2nd Dnd Campaign I ever did and the only solo Dnd Campaign I ever played in, it didn’t use The Glory of Rome setting rather it was based in A Version of The Roman Empire that was A Continent Wide Country that's set in a version of The World of Pelinore from 1st edition Dnd that The GM converted for use in 2nd edition Dnd

That’s why my plan was that if my character earned his freedom he would leave the Dnd Version of The Roman Empire that was his homeland and find somewhere that would sell a noble title to A Former Gladiator type Slave

Rolls on Tables The GM made show that my characters owner gave the best slave he’d ever had/my character, several dozen, counting things like the torch’s, the spikes and the crate as 1 their 36 gifts, the following parting gifts and even though these gifts are both highly extravagant and all in all cost him close to 120,200 Gold Coins considering that whilst I was A Slave type Gladiator I earned my characters now former owner more then 5,058,100 Gold Coins the cost of the gifts he gave me were a tiny price to pay to give a very large boost to his already massive PR

Those gifts ended up being 3 1-dose bottles of potion of healing, 1 +2 Sword, 1 +2 Shield, 1 Suit of +1 Chainmail Armour, 1 flask of endless water, 1 Medallion of ESP, 1 very high quality bedroll, 2 months worth of rations, 12 iron spikes, 6 torch’s, 6 foot of rope, 2 heavy pack horse’s, 1 sword, 1 hand axe, 1 dagger, 1 suit of chainmail armour, 1 shield, 1 backpack, 3 wineskins, 3 quartz’s of wine, 1 tinderbox, 1 small hammer, 1 light riding horse, 1 large sack, 1 headband, 1 loincloth, 1 crate that holds 12 3-pint bottles of good quality rum and 1 pair of reinforced metal arm-guards

After my character earned his freedom he left The Dnd Version of The Roman Empire that was his homeland but it took him more then 4 years to find somewhere that would sell 1 or more noble titles to A Slave type Former Gladiator

Of his 607,580 Gold Coins he used 151,800x4 or 607,200 of them to buy 4 titles and each title was of fairy Senior Baron ruling A Large Barony, true that only left him with 380 Gold Coins but now he has 4 titles that were each of A fairy Senior Baron that ruled A Large Barony

It took over 3 more years for him to find a wife and took more then another 5 years for his wife to give him a heir

My character died on his son and heirs 11th birthday, which means he died at the age of 58 years, 10 months, 0 weeks and 3 days

5 years later

It was A Solo Campaign, meaning that I was the only Player and my character was the only character

Ok started rereading ACKs partly due to this thread partly because I've found a couple of potential players who are playing 3.5 and B/X ( in their 20s and early 30s as well).

I've never played a solo campaign, but I think that it's cool that you made this guy into a sort of alter-ego by using your own name, and stuck at it for three years! I bet you have some good memories of playing him - I especially liked the details about his family (and the poetic tragedy of him dying on his son's 11th birthday).

To be honest its been that long that the only memories I have are those I wrote in the notes and all those I didn't write on my laptop are very long, as in 11 years or more, gone

Something I've just thought of is how is A 11 year old kid who likely hasn't even begun being taught how to run even a regular domain going to cope when the day after his 11th birthday he inherits 4 titles, all of which are of fairy Senior Baron that rules A Large Barony?

He would run it horribly - he's 11!

Historically when this sort of situation occurred - it wasn't uncommon - some form of trustee would be in charge, or likely a group of them. In this situation, if the boy's mother is alive she might take the reins.

He could rely on his servants for advice. Alfred to his Batman.

I've just had a idea. Would it work?

A Country is losing a war so badly that its a matter of when will they lose not will they lose

So they offer to settle it a duel by champions to the foe who arrogantly agree, after all the enemy knows that their weakest surviving champion is 4 levels higher, 9th as opposed to 5th, then the strongest surviving champion of the country their invading

Yet the country that was previously winning the war lost the duel by champions

How?, simple because the king that up to that point was guaranteed to lose the war knew that despite how savage the invaders could be their code of honour would not let them attack a female that is of either noble birth or royal birth

So he assigned his 17 year old granddaughter who was only A 1st level Fighter as their champion to face the enemy champion who was A 11th level Barbarian and because the country that was losing the wars champion was A Female of royal birth the invaders code of honour would not let their champion attack their champion, which means the enemies champion forfeited, the invaded countries champion automatically won and the country that would otherwise have lost the war won the war
