D&D (2024) Final Guesses: packet 7 subclasses

I've included Divine Soul, but in a way I hope it isn't there: my hope will be that the Sorcerer gets to choose a spell list (like what the Bard had, and which may still survive in one form or another). That first-level choice would eliminate the need for a Divine Soul, and would greatly increase the diversity of builds available.
General Spell lists are out. Only class specific lists remain.

This is half a bet, and half wishful thinking

Barbarian: Beserker, Totem Warrior, Ancestral Guardian and Something New
Fighter: Champion, Eldritch Knight, Battle Master and Cavalier
Sorcerer: Draconic, Wild, Storm and Something New
Warlock: Fiend, Great Old One, Archfey, Celestial
Wizard: Evoker, Illusionist, Necromancer, Bladesinger

...which is why I included Divine Sorcerer as a pick.

It is possible that there will still be some spell list choice for Bards (and by extension Sorcerers), but I'm not betting on it, and that's why I hedged with "which may still survive...".
I'm still going to push for it in the feedback.

As for my guesses:
Barbarian: Ancestral Guardian, Storm Herald
Fighter: Arcane Archer
Sorcerer: Divine Soul, Shadow Magic
Warlock: Celestial

Wizard (as the special case):
Evoker, Necromancer, Illusionist, Bladesong

I'd replace Bladesong with Conjuration. And Celestial Patron with Genie Patron or anew Patrons , otherwise I agree there could be new subclass in there somewhere for a none Wizard, but not more then 2 at most.

One of the ways to do it would be to tighten each of the class lists, and broaden each of the subclasses additional spells lists. I'm not sure they'll do this, but it would work.

(And I maintain that they should keep the Arcane; Divine; Primal lists, at least internally (and in the fluff) AND for SPELL CARDS).

I wouldn't take the online kvetching too seriously: it did well enough to go to print in Tasha's, literally the same threshold they're using for the new PHB. It's presence in BG3 indicates that it is a popular choice.
I’m not sure it does. Would WotC have given Larian access to the data to determine if it was popular?

Not to say that I think the wild magic Barbarian isn’t popular. I’m just not sure its inclusion in BG3 reliably indicates its popularity.

I am guessing one of the Wizard subclasses is going to be something other than one of the eight schools of magic that the spells are typed by. One of the difficulties in getting new Wizard subclasses over the 70 percent threshold was the slight drag caused by the identity of the class and subclasses being so tied to the eight schools. That would be like having a Mage class with subclasses called "Red", "Orange", "Yellow", "Green", "Blue", "Indigo" and "Violet". When you suddenly try to add a subclass called "Metal" or "Vivomancer," it just seems off. The PHB is a great place to break that symmetry before people start mentally organizing the class that way. In fact, I kind of wish that we got 4 new subclasses and delegate the spell school choice to be a one level feature that you get at first level which might just be the scribing feature and a couple of bonus spells with the subclasses more about the role you play in adventuring like War Mage, Scholar Mage, etc.
Yeah, if I had my druthers, the four would be Bladesinger, War Mage, Order of Scribes, and either make School Specialist the fourth subclass, or make school specialization a core class feature like how clerics and druids get to pick an Order, and make a new fourth subclass, maybe like a Summoner or something.
