That’s cause cars are now made of fiberglass. Take one of the old steel behemoths and hit a deer. Totally different story.

I wonder if more deer are killed by cars or by guns?

So, this sparked 2 memories, one old and one recent.

Old: I'm a dumb kid, moved to the city, not used to city traffic, and I'm driving an old solid steel work van. I run a stop sign and get hit by a new car. That car absolutely EXPLODED its front end, while I was slightly jostled, and had a tiny dent in the back end. All were fine in the end, but man the damage done to the car that hit me, total write off.

New: I recently did a drive through several states for a reunion, and there was an alarming number of dead deer on the highways of the US from Washington to Wyoming. I dont know how much deer hunting goes on, but I've never seen so many hit by cars in a short time span.

Back when I was in grade 6, a frighteningly long time ago, a St. Bernard ran into the side of my home room teacher's Corvette. He was doing about 25 MPH at the time, because it was a school zone. The dog shook its head, got up, and trotted off. The front quarter and driver's side door shells were split, lengthwise.

That reminded me of something I had forgotten since high school.

A buddy of mine was in a hurry to get back to class from lunch, and got clocked by a traffic cop for doing 50-something mph in a school zone (20mph). Unfortunately for him, this part of the school zone was also under construction, since they were redoing one of the curbs. You see, in McClain County, speeding in a school zone will get you a $50 fine for every mile per hour over the speed limit. And pretty much everywhere in Oklahoma, all fines are doubled in construction zones. The cop wrote him, a 16 year old kid, a ticket for thousands of dollars. And he wrote it with a smile.

My buddy threw himself on the mercy of the court, but found none...not even from his own dad, who was an attorney. (I think his dad was hoping to teach him a lesson, now that I think about it.) He ended up working two summer jobs to pay off that ticket.

First read of this, I thought the St Bernard was doing 25 because it was a school zone. Said to myself, that's a smart dog.

Second reading, I'm wondering if the pup got into his little cask of brandy.

on the one hand, we want copyright protections, but on the other hand, we hate what Disney has done in the past regarding copyright protections.

Copyright protections are necessary if we are not to stifle the creative spark of the artists! That's why we support copyright protections that extend one hundred and fifty years from the date of initial creation.

On the other hand, we also desire to pay our creatives somewhere between jack and sh... something else...

Yep. Copyright should be a thing so artists (not corporations) can earn a living from their art. But some level of reason should be put in place. Two or three generations of the artist’s family shouldn’t be milking their long dead relative’s creativity.
