WotC Hasbro gains big time from D&D, Magic, Monopoly, and Baldur's Gate 3

Fair enough re: done, I don't want to harass you about it or anything, but please allow me to point out that, whilst to you, the language "thought about" may be accurate for the reasons you describe, if you really want to see this discussed less, I would suggest avoiding that language, because it's not how a lot of people would understand that. And the internet (including me, I must admit) loves pedantry and specificity. So one of the best ways to start a massive discussion of something is to talk about it in a way that pedants won't like! Not a critique of you or your view, just a point re: practicality of achieving one's goals! I myself have modified terms before to avoid starting pointless discussions of things, even if I was slightly irked to do so!

Again, the people trying to push some revisionist 'it never happened' seem to be more vocal than the 'wizards is bad cuz OGL' we have plenty of other reasons to know that wizards is bad, the OGL event, which happened btw with measurable impact, is just one more bump in the road.

I just get tired of every single thread that discusses anything to do with the business side of things being derailed time and again by the OGL issue. I'm not saying it wasn't an issue. Nobody is saying it never happened. It was a stupid move and it did happen. It was also not implemented.

What can I say, I don't see the point in holding a grudge about something they thought about doing until they realized based on feedback how idiotic an idea was and cooler heads prevailed.
I can only speak for me, but the fact that they wanted to do it at all and actually tried to implement it is reason enough to hold a grudge forever. They only did the right thing because it became clear that they would be shooting themselves. If people hadn't spoken up and dropped accounts and taken other action, they would have been perfectly happy to continue to screw every partner and player that made D&D a success. Frankly, screw them.

I think life is too short to hold a grudge over a policy that was never implemented. 🤷‍♂️

I think the Eric Mona anecdote is a clue that it wasn’t just FLGS and distribution to them. FYI.
Yep. All I meant was I wouldn't put too much weight on FLGS sales meaning much as a measuring stick for what the casual TTRPG player is buying because I think just by going to a FLGS you're already in a different portion of the fandom. The prices at most FLGS already eliminates many customers unfortunately and I'd guess if you're willing to spend more money on a book to support a store, you're a little bit more dedicated to the hobby than the casual player.

no one is asking you to hold one, not sure why you want others to not hold one though

Me, I am not holding a grudge, but I keep them at an arm’s length and am more interested in other games than before. The 2024 playtest helps with that too ;)

I get tired of every single thread about anything to do with the business side of things getting derailed by the same thing.
