I don't know how to tell y'all this, but there's no such thing as the Chupacabra*.
No such thing‽‽‽ I'll have you know their eight studio album reached Number Six on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the lead single reached Number Two on the British Singles chart! They not only exist, they're great!

Hmm, you know, that is a good album.

It's a metaphor for That Problem you keep hearing about, but you've never actually seen in the game.
And you never will. Because it doesn't exist. It's all just bad data, unreliable testimony, and entrenched opinion.

On a (slightly) related note, next week I get to teach high school kids the rules for hearsay for mock trial.

Given the number of attorneys that don't fully understand it, it's always a ... well, it's always something!

Oh, I know that one, that's the one where nothing you've ever said can ever be used against you in court! o_O

I like your 4e. I do not like your 4e players*. They are so unlike your 4e.

*posters?

It's interesting in that there are a number of vocal (and often somewhat toxic) fanbases that manage to lessen my enjoyment or appreciation of a product.

To use one example and move away from RPGs, I have enjoyed Rick and Morty episodes. But I would never say I'm a fan of the show, because, um, well ...

Also, Star Wars.

And for an unfortunately serious example, I brought one of my kids to a historical airshow this summer. Lots of great old planes. But let me tell you, you have to be careful around WWII enthusiasts. Most people there were great, but there was an unhealthy >0% of the population that enjoyed German memorabilia and reenactment to a conspicuous degree.

Oh, that's very much understood. There exists, in pretty much any of my hobbies, those practitioners who I REALLY do not want to be associated with.

I always learn something new when I'm hanging out with my niblings.

Niece: (quietly snacking on some fresh figs)
Nephew: "Eww, figs have wasp eggs in them!"
Niece: "So? Figs are still delicious."
Nephew: "You're eating bugs!"
Niece: "Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how delicious these figs are."

The lesson I learned: haters are always gonna hate. The trick is to ignore them and just listen to your own joy.
