@CleverNickName, fig wasps blew my mind when I heard about them. And they probably aren't the only bugs we're eating. I've read that most processed foods can have a certain amount of bug in them when they're sold, but that may be an urban legend.

My nephew continued his tirade for a little while longer, but she kept shooting him down with witty comebacks until he gave up and left.
"So...you're telling me...that I can have all of your figs?"

Humans have been eating bugs for as long as we've been humans. (shrug) I don't see what all the fuss is about, I guess it's a cultural thing? It's lost on me, though. They sell these crispy mealworm snacks at a specialty food store here in town--they're like rice crackers made from ground mealworms instead of ground rice--and they're wonderful (the BBQ flavored ones are amazing.)

ETA- for example, you cannot have an average of more than 5 or more whole equivalent insects per 100 grams of apple butter, and no more than 4 rodent hairs. You're also safe if you're under a 12% mold count.

People are always so shocked to learn that there's no such thing as "pure" cornmeal in their corn chips, cows also produce more stuff than milk and meat, and that chocolate was once a fruit growing in a forest somewhere with bugs in it.

(clutches pearls) "You mean there might be dirt and weevils in my expensive, organic, whole grain flour?!" Well, yeah. Did you think they grew that wheat in a laboratory or something?

I think it's about intentionality. Like, eating bugs intentionally is fine. Eating them accidentally, less so. Like the mosquito my baseball coach swallowed during his pregame pep talk was both unwelcome and not food-grade.

I always learn something new when I'm hanging out with my niblings.

Niece: (quietly snacking on some fresh figs)
Nephew: "Eww, figs have wasp eggs in them!"
Niece: "So? Figs are still delicious."
Nephew: "You're eating bugs!"
Niece: "Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how delicious these figs are."

The lesson I learned: haters are always gonna hate. The trick is to ignore them and just listen to your own joy.

If "pineapple on pizza" is a metaphor for personal preferences in D&D, I wonder what "wasp eggs in figs" would be a metaphor for? What would be something unintentional and unpleasant, but you didn't actually mind it until someone called attention to it?
