The difference being, those Gods, where at times put in their actual homes, and I believe described as if they were those other Pantheons, at least in various editions before this one.

Asmodeous? Hes his own thing, not in the Christian Hell, but the Nine Hells, with a very different creation myth (which I adore) that is not the Christian one, even if it shares some elements of course since this is a Western game, and those who created it over the years would be predominantly Christian, even if not practicing.

So Asmodeus comes straight from Christian mythology, although in some editions he also had Zoroastrian traits.

Again if the goal was to avoid controversy, it clearly backfired, would this level of backlash be occurring if they hadn't made this choice? No.

All religions are made up, and all mythologies equally valid for applying CR and class abilities. Humans have broken pattern recognition software and "religious experiences" are literally, scientifically no different than hallucinogenic drug trips.

So how about we not poke the Mod Bear by arguing about whether Jesus or Thor has higher CR.

You naughty word on religious experiences and then worry about folks argueing over Jesus CR,🤣🙏.

What level of backlash do you think this is entailing...?

You are cherry picking, and obviously so.

No, you don't get that calling someone personal religious experiences which are super meaningful to people, hallucinations, which is orders of magnitude more offensive and nasty, then giving fictionalized versions of Jesus and Thor CR. No religious folks confused fictionalized media versions with the real thing, so it's not important compared to actual religious experiences. You dumped on meaningful, rich experiences of religious people with absolute distain, it's one of the most disrespectful things you can do to a religious person.

Well alot of argueing so far.
Yet this time last year you yourself, as shown above, were posting angrily about how Hecatr was treated in Spelljammer, when that was simply repeating the information from the 2014 PHB and the OG Deities & Demigods. Your own thread from then shows that this is a minefield for WotC, and thwt the risk is greater than the minimal reward.
