Disagree. The original long term plan (when such a plan came into being) was for there to be nine films, with the original trilogy being the middle group. That makes Episode 9 the logical end of the sequence.This is a tangential point, but The Last Jedi only became the penultimate episode of an a 40 year saga when Disney decided they should market Rise of Skywalker as the culmination of the "Skywalker Saga". When it was being written, it was the middle act of the first sequel trilogy (a far more appropriate designation when building on a saga whose central plot arcs were resolved in 1983).
