Speaking of which, fantasy sports are some of the absolute best geek media.

Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith have one of the best portrayals of rising fascism ever in sf cinema. How this happened, I do not know.
Lucas was an old 60s guy. The Empire is quite clearly supposed to be the Nazis. Palpatine gains power through a democratic process and is allowed to do so by a crisis and a war, just like Hitler in Weimar Germany. It's a clear parallel.

Though at least he wasn't tendentious enough to make Nute Gunray (who was obviously supposed to be Newt Gingrich-remember him?) on the side of the real villains...
And now let me roll up my sleeves and get to work here…

Too much nostalgia for products of gaming’s early years is at heart a Faustian yearning to be freed from the burden of knowledge, to be morally innocent and not required to recognize evil or expect to do anything about it. (Ok, this is hyperbole and then some, but this kind of threads needs more sticks stirring things.)
I'd say it's simpler. You were young when you read those books. Being old sucks. You lose your hair, you gain weight, your joints start to hurt, and you realize you're eventually going to die. If you read the 1e or 2e DMG or Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, it takes you back to your younger years. Who wouldn't want to be young again?

Unbreakable is the best live-action superhero movie. Superman the Movie is the best live-action superhero movie based on an existing character.

I'd add that Into the Spider-verse is the best comic book movie of all time, but I don't think that is an unpopular opinion.
