21st May 2024 is the official release date!

Update--WotC has taken down the promo image and replaced it with one without a release date. See more here.

The more I think about Eve of Ruin and the PHB coming out on the same date, the more it makes sense. Especially if it's a level 13-20 adventure. WotC could suggest several ways to play in the marketing.
  • Follow up the adventure of your PCs from a previous 1-12 campaign with the 2014 PHB.
  • Follow up the adventure of your PCs from a previous 1-12 campaign with the 2024 PHB, with an included conversion guide for updating your existing characters.
  • Create new level 1 2024 PHB characters and play thru an existing 1-12 campaign, followed by Eve of Ruin
  • Create new level 13 2024 PHB characters and play Eve of Ruin.
  • Mix and Match 2014 and 2024 PCs with any of the above.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if on May 21, the updated MM monsters needed for Eve of Ruin are available as a 'digital early access' on DDB. You can use the 2014 MM if you're playing without DDB.

All of this helps hammer home the interoperability argument, and with a May 21 release means kids on summer break get the entire summer to play the adventure.

The person on the bottom is supposed to be farther away, behind the dwarf. Part of the battle going on in the background.
That and the perspective is from below the dwarf in the foreground.
Okay, I can see that now. Still looks a bit off though.
Yeah it does look a bit odd to me as well. Seems like the person in the background should be bigger. Maybe when you see the image in the actual book it'll look different.

Do we know if the Vecna adventure has been printed yet (or scheduled to be printed soon). What happened in 2014? Did they print the adventure first then delayed its release until PHB was ready to be distributed?

From watching the PAX video yesterday, all they said was heres whats coming in 2024, no exact dates on anything

I don't know why the PHB would come out with the MM and DMG beside it. Has D&D ever done this? At least for 2014, it was all staggered, and the PHB came with an adventure path. That makes the most sense to me. The adventure path is a far better product to publish alongside the DMG, because it gives people playable content right then and there. Then if people like that, they can tap into the MM and DMG as it comes out.

hmm, the art for cover... where to begin?

1st the positives:
I like the general theme, crashing through the breach, that is awesome.

I like the dwarf, the hair, the beard, the armor, even the shortbow look nice.

But, and there is always a butt...

what are those melee weapons?

Main hand is something between dagger and shortsword, but it's damn meat cleaver.
That thing is like 3 times as massive as it should be. Good luck being fast enough to parry anything with it.

Shield is awful, too bulky, even with least dense wood suitable for shields, that thing would be at least 10kg in mass.
No one can defend with it, unless the only idea is to hold it in front and try to cover long range missile attack that come down in an arc.

Battleax is OFC a wood felling axe, probably 5 times as massive as a useful battleax would be.

This dwarf is basically armed with a good looking shortbow, two tools designed for cleaving already killed animals and firewood. And for added protection he has a cutout of a sturdy oak door.

I really hope he took Archery style and that he will go to the back ranks and those melee weapons will kill him sooner then he will kill anyone with them.

Didn't anyone from the art department had a hour of HEMA training in their lives?
