I don't take seriously people who get offended about what other people eat. Yes, I'm aware that this is a very common trait here in Italy.

BTW, it is possible to get some quite good "Napoli" style pizza here in Rome.

For sure. My wife is from Genova and they have some excellent Napoli style pizzerias there as well. Roma was probably the most diverse place in Italy for food, at least in my experience. You could basically find anything there.

If it makes you feel better, living in your country permanently ruined my ability to eat a lot of things without wishing it was the way I had it over there. Don't get me started about coffee..

This isn't about pizza, is it? Heck, it isn't even about food. This is about you getting to mock other people without feeling bad for it. "Look at these rubes, eating pineapple on their pizza," you say loudly, then quickly look around the room and hope that someone else will say "yeah! I agree!" and give you that sweet burst of validation you've been craving. The eye contact, that little chin pop of solidarity. Now you aren't a common bully, bothering people who are otherwise enjoying their day. You're a popular bully, with cronies that will sneer and say stuff like "huh huh huh yeah, good one Chad!" when you act out.

That's what this is all about, isn't it? Pineapple as a pizza topping was never the issue...just like calling a kid with glasses "four-eyes" is never about vision correction.

TL;DR: be kind to one another. Let people enjoy things. Remember that you are in public. Don't feed the trolls or validate the bullies, but don't let their behavior slide--report them without engagement, then click away.

Pineapple as a pizza topping was never the issue...

For a given definition of Pineapple, and pizza? Yeah it is, because some would have you believe that Pineapple always makes the pizza better, and if you include Mushrooms, you've ruined it and are probably a bad person to boot.

Its the hypocrisy of it, that makes it funny, but I think we may be discussing different Pineapples.
