If your dps is not high enough, roll your dice faster... ;)

If you meant DPR, being 3 to 6 points behind is not dead last.
Sorry, meant DPR. It is next to dead last tho. It's just that the range is smaller (although I do want to check on his assumptions versus those of others, because that has an effect).

They are only just last, slightly behind. And do have the advantage of damage spikes (nice to have vs monks for example).
Dead last means that they are hanging far behind everyone else, doesn't it?

yeah,
I.E. Life cleric could be just renamed Healer and be pasted on any caster class in the game. Even half-caster.
Yeah. Or multiclass subclasses...

But the commitment would be too high. Unified progression felt a bit awkward on the fighter. Getting a feat at 4 and 5 instead of level 6 felt wrong.

I hope somewhere in the future we see a D&D that is designed with that in mind.

Too sad 5e was restricted by trying to be as far away (on first glance) from 4e as possible. Unified progression were a no go at that time.

Rogue weapon masteries are either Vex, Nick, or Slow.
Not quite true. The rogue can have weapon masteries in any weapon they are proficient with, which includes simple weapons.

Now is it likely that rogue would choose say a quarterstaff? I could maybe see it at the very early levels when you can't get in a sneak attack and so would rather do a trip (and assuming your strength isn't garbage, than swap it out later for a different weapon.

More likely this would be for fun thematic builds than optimizers, but the option is there if you want to take.

Not even sure of the purpose of your advocacy. Not a popular idea, and not something that WOTC will be doing, so why pursue this line of advocacy?
hehe I hear that. I mean this thing is almost ready for the printers, and people are still talking about total changes to class structures. Its not going to happen. You can get a few tweaks, maybe a swap of 1 ability for another, but your not going to see wholesale redesigns at this point.

No. Dead last can mean you're in last "by a considerable margin," but it can also just mean last. Also, I did note that they're "next to dead last" tho, so they're not actually dead last.

However, I think they probably are dead last if you use a different Paladin subclass and/or go further than 13th level - Oath of Glory gives you Reaction Attacks from Glorious Defense and Unerring Strike, Oath of the Ancients can get Advantage from Restrained in several ways and can do sustained damage with Moonbeam, and Oath of Vengeance can get Advantage from its Vow and Reaction Attacks from Soul of Vengeance.

Will there finally be items that modify sneak attacks and sneak damage?

I'm fine with these items benefiting any character that can sneak attack; no need to single out the rogue class specifically.
Like Death strike bracers or lesser truedeath crystals & Greater truedeath Crystals ? Unfortunately I don't see the need for such things until wotc is willing to make some changes. Changes that make those an option would however do a lot of good for encounter/adventure design by adjusting how the mere threat of some monsters creates risk.
