I found it silly, campy and completely unoriginal. The CGI was rather bad. But I still enjoyed it...

It was a visual feast for sure. Snyder does have style, just lacks substance. I guess my expectations were met because I expected Sucker Punch in Space. Could have been a good movie if they just stuck to a Magnificent Seven in Space instead of adding all the space Nazi opera junk.I found it silly, campy and completely unoriginal. There was a very telling scene in the opening fight where she puts the gun under the guy's chin and pulls the trigger and he just dies.I mean, its a very violent movie, but the gore was kept low, but not nonexistent.
This is a good summary. I thought this would be a space epic so was very confused when I got 7 samurai. My thoughts are they didn’t know if they wanted a space opera like Star Wars/dune or a sci-fi western samurai/magnificent 7. So shoe horned both to push this into 2+ movies. It’s all going to suffer for it too.
Yeah, I couldn't get past the Cantina scene from Star Wars.I was really hyped for this movie and I couldn't even finish it.
Special effects aside, I thought BBtS was better than Rebel Moon part 1.When expectations are higher, judgments are harsher. Which is probably why Battle Beyond the Stars is reasonably well remembered: people don't expect much from Roger Corman, so when it's not a complete stinker it's regarded as a win.
