Although I'd actually been online since around '95 or so, it was around '97 that I started doing Rocky Horror and discovered alt. cult-movies.rocky-horror and another group of weirdos called alt.basement.graveyard...

While I had dealt with BBSes and the like before, the first time I got really into the internet was with MUDs (specifically, LPMuds), which is also when I got really into C as a programming language.

Good times, for a very loose and counter-intuitive definition of "good."

In my first computer industry job, one of my co-workers operated an Amiga based BBS. In my next job we were selling computers and hardware to a company called Canada Remote Systems who were a large Toronto based BBS network. They were soon slaughtered by public access to the Internet, in the '90s.

"YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT!"

"Nothing, because it can't happen. Right?"

I can believe it's not the 1990s just fine. What keeps tripping me up is that the 1990s were thirty years ago.

In less than two months, we will be thirty years removed from Kurt Cobain's death.

I was thinking about this when I noticed all of the young people wearing Nirvana gear, and wondering how many of them listened to Nirvana. Alas, the answer (as told to me by a young person) was ... almost none of them.
