Eratosthenes, a Greek mathematician and astronomer, calculated the Earth's circumference with incredible accuracy using a couple of sticks and the sun back in the 3rd century BCE. Ancient people are nowhere near as dumb as most people seem to assume.

There are petroglyphs or pictographs (I forget which) somewhere in the American Southwest--the Park Service ranger who mentioned them in his night sky presentation at Big Bend NP intentionally did not say where--that show the night sky accurately and in enough detail that it is possible to determine which astronomical events they observed and recorded. As you say, "ancient" does not mean "dumb."

Secondly, when we dont have insane work weeks, and the stress of modern life that 'glorious progress and modern technology' has 'blessed' us with, it is quite amazing what people have been able to accomplish.

We then took that progress, and people declare, 'nah bro the earth is flat'.

We have regressed.

See folks, microwaves are not just nasty, but also dangerous.

At one point, i realized the microwave at work was turning on when the door was opened. In fact, it was only turning on when the door was opened! They replaced it, but not before, I suspect, we got a higher than anticipated dose...

I worked in a general home electronics company for less than 2 years, a few decades ago. At one point I was the only computer tech they employed in all of Canada. My repair bench was in the same room as the guys who repaired stereos, TVs, and microwaves. They each had a couple of little pieces of rubber tubing that they would use to defeat the safety interlocks, when working on microwaves, so that they could see what was going on. When the tubing came out, I would leave the building. Never got in trouble for it, either.
