What's with all the "my way or the highway" energy in this thread all of a sudden?

I have no problem with nostalgia, so long as it isn't being used as a bludgeon against those who desire progress. Demanding that people abandon things they once loved, just for your own comfort? Come on, that's not cool.

Or is this just commentary on a thread that I'm not following, so I missed the reference?

I'm all for comfort food, the annual vacation to the place that feels like a long (well, 50-week) missed home, B2, and the B/X artwork!

I know right? It's good to play old games, and older editions of games. It's good to read old books, watch old movies, visit old friends, and listen to old records. I love newer books inspired by older works. I love new dishes inspired by old family recipes. I love new D&D adventures inspired by classic modules. But lately, folks are acting like these things are ruining the economy alongside avocado toast, or something. I don't get it. Where did all this come from?

I'm guessing the nostalgia enjoyers and the get-off-my-lawn new-stuff-sux folks gets mixed together online.

I don't remember it being nearly as bad back in the usenet days...

I'm just being silly here.

Everyone should do what they want, so long as they're not hurting people.

I don't think this conflict is new.

When I came back to this site about a third of the way through the 5E era, I immediately encountered a ton of people furious that WotC wasn't remaking all of their old material. (Goodman Games' OAR books hadn't been announced yet.) The idea that one could just update the stats themselves (since most monsters in old modules appear in the 5E Monster Manual) or pick up a document doing the work for them at DMs Guild outraged a number of these folks.

As for what's going on now, there hasn't been any news for a few weeks and so nonsense is just bubbling up to fill the void.

We should do what itch.io does and have "jams" where people are encouraged to make themed stuff whenever things are slow.
