For a lot of people it’s not sufficient that you like the thing. You have to love it. Love it so much you prove it by showing the group just how much you love it. Tons of posts displaying conspicuous consumption is one way. Being the most consistent defender of the faith brand is another. We see that here quite a bit. And of course heaping sufficient praise on dear leader the creator of the thing you love is another.
It is vitally important not to be perceived as insufficiently devoted to the Cause.
Then again sportbike riders are Power Rangers.
Kamen Rider feels unappreciated.

I don't disagree, except Lucas is not to my knowledge a TRPG designer. ;)

No. But if you total up the TTRPGs based off of his creations, and then (if you're generous) add in all the story based adventure games from LucasArts, I think he's got a lot credits to his name in the industry.

Tolkien's sculpting work for GW in the 2000s was phenomenal
I don't know, they look too much like movie actors to me. His 80's era sculpts were cruder but had more character.

I'm just glad Lovecraft's used a different writing style on Call Of Cthulhu than in his fiction. I imagine Chaosium refused to publish until he put some actual rules text in to replace all the "indescribably horrible" bits. Those didn't work great even in the monster section, but trying to shortcut character generation that way was just cheap.

What people don't realize is that Lovecraft did very well at describing his indescribable creatures by using a wealth of verbiage about what they did not QUITE look like.
