D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

As for Gen X. Well, let me finish off with our motto born from neglect and apathy: "Whatever."

So much apathy that you made a thread about it? Yeah, that checks out.

Unless... they plan on creating new content using these characters? Give younger generations some experience with them? Get new fans?
It would be weird if FreeVee is the limit of their plans for these characters. I suspect a lot of animation studios have gotten goody bags of D&D swag and visits from hopeful Hasbro executives.

Never liked this art. They all have the same wide-chinned face.
He kind of famously uses models for poses. He likely is just using the same model for the men, so they all look the same in the face. Except the old guy probably got a different model. Same with the women. One model. Which is why their faces look the same. It is eerie, isn’t it.

Even artists who don't do this fall into the same trap. Dan Jurgens' characters rely on their costumes to distinguish them from one another. Even early George Perez work had this issue.

I seem to recall the alt-cover versions from 1E* & 2E sold poorly, and the entire 3.5E core wasn't very well received. Newcomers will pick up the books, but most existing casuals I suspect won't. It's going to be a toss-up if the hardcore fans like us will pick them up - I'm only planning to get the DMG, myself for example.

* I bought only the alt-covers for 1E. There was no way those original covers for the PHB & DMG would have made it into my parent's house.
I feel that! The neighbor kid lent me his module with the kuo toa goddess and my mom was aghast!

My plan was to get the dmg too. Not into moar power! But even phb is looking slick. Will see if I make my wisdom

I am aware the new edition is part of the 50th anniversary. I'm on these boards.

I don't mind them leaning into the nostalgia for the cover. To be honest, I didn't know who they were until they were pointed out to me. I think that's kinda cool. Does it bother me that it is harkens back to something older? No, why would it?

The alt 2E covers are my favorite of any edition.

May have just been my neck of the woods but 3.5E did well here. It was the "cleaned up and much needed revised" edition. I see 5.5 as the same thing. A much needed fresh coat of paint and structure updating. Wasn't to long ago people were complaining about the basic core Ranger in the 5E book.
