D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Each day this week, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a new live-streamed preview video based on the upcoming Player's Handbook. The first is entitled Everything You Need To Know and you can watch it live below (or, if you missed it, you should be able to watch it from the start afterwards). The video focuses on weapon mastery and character origins.

There will be new videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, focusing on the Fighter, the Paladin, and the Barbarian, with (presumably) more in the coming weeks.

Hmm, since I added the Iron Kingdoms Requiem 5E weapons table to the regular 5E Weapons table for my 5E games, I gotta figure out which Mastery Properties I have to assign to firearms and others.

Of course it is. It is what it means. You can play old games on a new system. Now you can play older adventures and even older characters on the newer system. I am really not sure why there are so many people not understanding what backwards compatibility means...
Right but with video games you cant mash two games together so...you know what....why does anyone bother?

Yes, seems to be exactly the same. Thats too bad there are some problematic things in it like sap which gives Enemies Disadvantage. So a Fighter or two can give a whole group Disadvantage .. that will result in some boring (and frustrating gameplay for the GM) fights where monsters just wiff every round..

Honestly, I don't mind sap if it's applied to weapons not regularly in the cycle. I want a cool ability on a mace and morningstar, because no one ever picks the mace.

I just don't want sap on a longsword.

Unless you were this Chad of a game:

In the context of the video, what Crawford is saying that a 2024 Fighter at a 2014 table would face an issue because the Class rules reference Weapon Masteries, which aren't in the 2014 book, unlike a 2014 PC at a 2014 table where everything is present in the rules.

So the comparison to a PS3 playing PS2 games, but a PS2 not running PS3 games is apt.

Of course, a 2014 table can still use 2024 characters by taking that stuff from the 2024 rules ad hoc. Which I'm sure plenty here will do.

Because you can upgrade to ps3. Put your ps2 away and play older games on the new system. You eventually replace older games with the sequel game (with nicer graphics and gameplay) .

Now you shelve your 2014 PHB and then still use all your other books until you buy the sequel with nicer gameplay.

I see no difference here.

Edit: in both cases if you don't like the sequel, you just play the older game.
