D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Each day this week, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a new live-streamed preview video based on the upcoming Player's Handbook. The first is entitled Everything You Need To Know and you can watch it live below (or, if you missed it, you should be able to watch it from the start afterwards). The video focuses on weapon mastery and character origins.

There will be new videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, focusing on the Fighter, the Paladin, and the Barbarian, with (presumably) more in the coming weeks.

When they talk about weapon mastery (on DnDbeyond and the video).....I hope they include sidebars about what mastery means and how to use it and stuff. (really, I love 13th age sidebars, and I hope against hope we get those)

Not sure if someone provided this before, but there is a DnD Beyond Article covering it

Edit: Sorry, moving quickly, didn't register you had mentioned DnD beyond and had seen this. Mea Culpa

2e was a reorganization with other rules from 1e moved to “optional rules”. This is more extensive than that.
I am aware - I was there. I also sell D&D books, and have done since 2e was the active edition.

What I said was not that the player-facing rules have changed less than 2e did. What I said was that the Adventures are still FOR SALE and that they will still work with the new core books.

And I said that that is a big deal for WotC.

Gnomes making a Warforged? Works for me!

Hate to be that guy, but isn't that a shield guardian?

Right, and that was precisely why Crawford said 2014 Characters would work fine in the updated game as is.

Disappointed the custom backgrounds got moved the DMG. That is a bad choice I think.

Like the rest of it though.
Treantmonk, who read the new PHB but cannot talk about most things, says they have not revealed something major about backgrounds. [Edit - though at the end I think he is implying nope, you cannot custom your background like you could in the playtest and must choose one?]

Hmm... wonder what that is beyond: 1) They give you some "pick between this and this" options, in particular for ASIs; and 2) Custom backgrounds are optional (DMG?) instead of the norm (boooo!).
