D&D (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Each day this week, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a new live-streamed preview video based on the upcoming Player's Handbook. The first is entitled Everything You Need To Know and you can watch it live below (or, if you missed it, you should be able to watch it from the start afterwards). The video focuses on weapon mastery and character origins.

There will be new videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, focusing on the Fighter, the Paladin, and the Barbarian, with (presumably) more in the coming weeks.

Kitiara never met the twins after Raistlin's Test, did she? Is there some prequel novel I'm forgetting?
No, from what I can find, Raistlin took the Test right after everyone (including Kitiara) decided to explore the world for five years and then meet back up in Solace afterwards (which is the event at the start of the original trilogy).

The male figure in the lower left certainly does bear a resemblance to Raistlin, so it would seem to be Caramon, but that leaves open who the woman to the right is, as Tika had red hair and Laurana gold. And the woman does have Kit's signature short, dark, curly hair, and is a warrior as well (if they had made her a cleric, the solution would be simple: she's Crysania and the scene is from the second trilogy - well, no, since Raistlin has his red robes...). So, like I said, if it's her, I guess Rule of Cool, even if it's a chronologically impossible illustration...

As far as compatibility, in the background video they say that if you want to use a species from an old book that isn't in here, they'll have rules on how to do it. I wonder how that will be implemented in Beyond.
If the Beyond team have done a really good job, I'd think that the Beyond character creator will do it automatically for you.

The books are up for pre-order on Beyond, with more are and information. Interesting to note, the DMG has 15 Adventure maps that are usable on Beyond:

@Morrus
I bought the digital-only bundle for the savings. Because, despite me saying I'm going to "wait and see," who am I kidding. I know I'm going to buy these books.
But I'm buying the physical books with the alt covers from my favorite friendly local game store (shoutout to The Sanctum in Racine, WI, USA). (FFLGS? F2LGS?).

Well, nice that the Moon Druid is still using actual creature stat blocks than the "generic" forms.
Not sure I really the generic blocks for Ranger's companion it sounds like they'll have, but that's always been a struggle to make that option fun and at the same time combat-relevant without being over/underpowered.
I was a fan of the templates, but don't have a strong opinion either way. In D&D Beyond it is so easy to filter by CR level and creature type that the generic stat block templates don't save that much time. I liked that the templates let players just make up what the creature was, but I suppose one can just find a monster-manual stat block that is close to their concept and redo the fluff.

Foundry and Amazon preorders are up too. I bet Roll20 too.
Oh nooooo...looks at wallet.

I'm going to wait on the Foundry purchase. It is my sole VTT at the moment, but I'm going to wait and see how Fantasy Grounds, Roll20, and the potential new WotC VTT support 5e. And I may decide to make do with just DDB with its Maps feature.
