D&D (2024) What's the future of Xanathar and Tasha? (+)

Some people think it's a great subclass! Some think it's another terrible Tasha design.
Which is exactly why WotC does not take a lot of the random complaints thrown out around here all that seriously. They are never going to trust a singular voice telling them why something sucks-- and based on how some people choose to play the game, I wouldn't believe their opinions as any sort of factual truth either. So instead they listen to larger amounts of voices telling them when there is a potential problem, along with their own internal voices.

But of course that just pisses off a lot of the voices here who are all mad that the things they think are blatantly obvious truths are in fact not held by most other people. I just find it amusing that this has been true for literally decades, and yet they still hang around constantly complaining about it.

My hope has always been that the incessant complaining is merely these players entertaining themselves by getting to rant via keyboard, and thus the vitriol is more hyperbole than honesty. Because if some of the folks here were genuinely as angry and upset as they come off-- their lives consumed with this game that they are forced to play even though they seem to hate entire facets of it-- I shudder to think what sort of miserable existence they must be leading. :)

As such, I seriously doubt Xanathar's and Tasha's will be directly retired anytime soon.
Define "soon", I'd say. I'd be shocked if we don't see elements of both reprinted by the end of 2027, and mildly surprised if we don't see it by the end of 2026.

Mixed in with a bunch of new-new stuff, probably, to be clear. Like, unless they changed the Bastion system absolutely massively (which by itself was more "gamist" than the whole of 4E's class design lol), I fully expect a Tasha's-like book with a completely alternative Bastion-type system.

Soon as defined by Weebsters Darctionary is : before later.
Why is everyone always so angry?

Given that elements of both will be incorporated into the new PHB, I do not see a one-to-one replacement. I will expect that there remaining elements will be revised in other future supplements.

I wouldn't really describe 2027 as soon, but I will say I expect thst another Everything book around then would make sense. And redoing what is wanted from Xanathar's would make sense for that.

Yeah that's what I meant by "define soon". To me, 2027 is "soon" in the slow-ass world of TT RPG publishing! To you it ain't. But yeah it's not going to happen this year and probably not early next.

The larger point for is that the old Subclasses will be usable from across published 5E books. So nothing is being intentionally broken.
