So if I'm getting this right.

Item A cost 50gp.
You start at 0gp when the crafting process starts.
Once a day, 10gp is added.
Repeat "add 10gp a day" until you hit 50gp total.
Item A has been made and is added to your inventory for use.

I mean, it's something at least. I've been playing video games all my life that a metaphorical "progress bar" filling up doesn't bother me at all.

Just to be a mite pedantic...cobblers tools would be the least niche tools in a Medieval society: cobblers was the master common profession after farmer. In a city, there would be a cobbler for every 20 people!
But their tools are highly specialised and useless for anything else.

Unlike the farmer, who probably has a tool for pretty much anything. Consider a spade. There is all sorts of stuff you can do with a spade.

Anyone else get the impression that the person who wrote this article finds crafting really silly and frivolous?
I enjoyed the energy of the article. Not taking things super-seriously isn't the same as considering them frivolous.

That's a load of cobblers.

I can’t think of a single time a player wanted to use crafting to make armor or a weapon. It’s always been the wizard brewing potions and making scrolls. Armor and weapons has always been out of reach because of treasure, not because of unavailability.
In a 3e game, I played a cleric that was centered around arming and armoring the astral deva. That was when I learned that while the to-hit/damage bonuses could only go up to +5, you could put a total of +10 worth of features on a weapon. Same with rings.

So something that was not mentioned but I kinda hoped they changed is the ability to craft during an adventure. If they say you can craft while you are at your camp or that a day of crafting is only 4 hours and not 8 then that changes a lot.

The article says that it's still measured in terms of days, and really months.

Yeah but what constitutes a day because in other videos they have mentioned crafting while adventuring expecialy the smaller items like low-level scrolls and healing potions. That makes me wonder is a day still considered an 8 hour work day or is it something else.
