Just one of many posts about the the PHB that someone was excited to share.
Sure, I just assumed, because there were lots of threads, that this was "important." I wasn't throwing shade. i was curious if it mattered in an important way. You know, at least as important as the soon to be 1000 post argument about stealth. Again.

Minor correction about 2014 custom background

It's a combination of two tools and/or languages

Whereas the 2024 background is just one tool and one language
LOL! I consider the languages (and musical instruments) so negligible, it is difficult for me to mention them.

As of the playtest, there were three languages: typically, Common, one for species, and one for background. Did this change? I will see if I can find the 2024 description.

2024 Background have dropped Language: apparently everyone juat gets a couple to choose wirh aome coming from Class abilities (love Sylvan for Druids etc.)

That's a weird set of ability descriptors - self conscious? Indirect? Squeamish? Hilarious? Decisive?
I kinda like it. Note these are "suggestions" that a player "might" choose from to flavor how to roleplay ones own character.

A player can come up with a different way to express an ability. For example, Charisma might actualize as a strong silent presence, or an effusive artistic creative. Or so on.

The list of four suggestions for high and for low is enough to think about how a particular character concept can come across.

I pretty much agree with the ability suggestions. For me, Dexterity is less about body coordination and more about hand coordination, so I wouldnt pick "Poised", but "Dynamic" works. I might add "Effortless".

Look at all them page inches wasted on alignment that could have been feats or a piece of equipment, or another weapon mastery or literally anything else that would actually benefit the game.
I'm in agreement. I actually liked alignment as a game tool, but 5th edition all but abandoned alignment as a meaningful mechanic. They might as well have taken this chance to be rid of it and put something useful in those pages.

If it is the case that each character knows Common and a language of players choice, then the Human extra language might be more useful within the scarcity − and appropriate flavor for the Human.

It would be amusing to see an Elf "lineage" for a character who doesnt know the Elven language. But it is plausible to grow up in a nonnative culture while upholding family traditions, except no longer speaking the language. There are plenty of reallife examples for similar.

A DM can grant Inspiration for roleplaying ones alignment in notable way.
