Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I have friends who react to earworms by intentionally listening to catchy but insipid music. This is not my approach, but it works for them.

I've tried. I went with the usual (Copacabana). I even made myself suffer through Mandy.

If subjecting myself to Barry Manilow isn't sufficient, there is no cure.

Random update-

For over a week, I have had the song Fly by Sugar Ray randomly going through my head. I am not sure why. I haven't heard it on any shows or ambiently.

Also? I despise that song. So ... so ... much.

Working theory- someone (and by someone, I mean either a Bard or DEREK!) has put a hex on me. Occam's Razor.
Have you tried the technique of actually listening to the song?

I remember hearing at one point a theory that the brain does this because it's trying to complete a pattern, and it's only recalling part of the song. Listening to the whole thing can complete the pattern and get the subconscious need fulfilled and the brain to let go of the damn thing.

I've had some success with this. Not, I think, as conclusive as my hiccup cure, but findings good so far.
