"Pro rate" (for genre fiction, anyway) has been five cents a word for ... more than half a century, possibly closer to a whole one.I think that the last rate that I caught was a nickle a word.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Motorsports photography, up here, wasn't any better. A full page picture, in a national motorcycle magazine, was a whole $125.00. I once lucked out and was the only pro photographer at a regional racing round that effectively turned out to be a national series practice. It paid my basis food and transportation costs for better than half a year.* The rest of the time I was pretty much in the hole. Now people wonder why I don't shoot the races anymore"Pro rate" (for genre fiction, anyway) has been five cents a word for ... more than half a century, possibly closer to a whole one.
Regular check in. Still bad. (At least it didn't mock me for missing the b on by I guess).

It was wild to see Peter Adkison give that as the justification of 3E’s design in those GenCon videos about the various editions.--
"But I'm a powergamer!" is about the worst design justification I've seen.

Not really, no. In the early pulp era (1924) it was in the 1/2¢ to 1¢/word neighborhood. And as of Sept 2019 the pro rate hit 8¢/word."Pro rate" (for genre fiction, anyway) has been five cents a word for ... more than half a century, possibly closer to a whole one.
I havent seen those, but its not an isolated belief it seems.![]()
I wonder if one of the biggest signs that my groups were different is that we never thought of using 3.5 or PF1e to power game. We just thought it was great to be able to get really close to our character concepts...I would definitely say 3E was the preferred edition of power gamers in my experience
