D&D (2024) I have a Monster Manual. AMA!

To dovetail into the questions of "are all Goblins Fey, are all Gith Aberrations"...this pretty clearly signals thst WotC doesn't mind having inconsistent Creature Type within a Species.

I also really, really think WotC is cooking up an Inber Planes Setting product.
I think you are close.

It could be an elemental themed First World product.

(I hope not, I already have that mythos worked out for my camapign. But maybe there will be stuff to steal).

Like I said, the "Monstrosity" creature type, I dont understand it.
Yeah, this confuses me. How does that work with them saying Monstrosities are now classic fantasy monsters and those that were created through magic? Are Thri-Kreen now unnatural creatures made by some wizard?
Mu h like the fellow Monstrosity, the Ettercap, the Thri-kreen is unnatural as a giant insect. Shouldn't work in nature. But they aren't Fey or Aberrations, soooo...

We have the full chart, as below, basically just"if yhr Adventure calls for X, use this stat block in this book":

It's interesting to see that, even though they've eliminated categories in favor of listing everything alphabetically, they have also clearly renamed some things so they'll still appear together (like how all the Modrons now have "Modron" at the beginning of their name).

It's odd that they haven't done that with all such groupings, though. Fiend Cultist won't show up in the same spot as Cultist Fanatic, for instance. Neither will the Gas Spore Fungus and the Shrieker Fungus (whereas, Fungus Gas Spore and Fungus Shrieker would have).

I see three big new Lore trends in the DMG (well, four if we include all the cartoon shoutouts):

  • The "First World" as an explanation of how the different D&D worlds echo so many concepts and figures, and why a given DMs campaign can include elements from all over the D&D Multiverse willy nilly. Lampshades the Lego builder set nature of D&D lore, basically.
  • The Elemental Plane material. Which gets oddly detailed and makes a hard sell for the Inner Planes as adventure locale (a lot of Adventure Localew, actually). I think this is one of the Settings they are cooking.
  • The Feywild and the Fey Courts, along with Domains of Delifht, getting lots of figures and lore described. Also feels like the bones of a Setting.

Both of the Feywild and Inner Sea stuff feels like the Spelljammer, Ravenloft and Planescape material also included...particularly notable with the way Planescape, Spelljammer, the Elemental Planes, Rabenloft and the Feywild get treated ont hat big world artboook last year.

Yeah, there ia another Appensix that also lists out all the families for DMs, I gather.

Emphasis mine.

That is the dumbest thing I have heard with regards to D&D 2024.
You are missing the fuller context that it's only two specific lizardfolk types (who are described as being influenced by elemental earth) who are elementals. Regular lizardfolk appear to still be humanoids as the MM directs you to use the NPC Scout statblock in place of the generic 2014 Lizardfolk statblock.

The less said about the "NPC statblock instead of monsters" situation the better. The dumb part is how the swamp dwelling amphibious lizardmen are connected to Earth.
