A Dungeons & Dragons TV show set in the Forgotten Realms is in development at Netflix. Deadline reports that the new TV series, titled The Forgotten Realms, is being produced by Shawn Levy, with Drew Crevello serving as writer and showrunner. No timeframe was given for the show's release. No cast has been announced and neither Hasbro nor Netflix has actually confirmed the project. If successful, the series could launch a wider D&D cinematic universe, long a goal for Hasbro.

Hasbro has tried unsuccessfully to get Dungeons & Dragons to television for several years. At one point, Paramount+ had a TV show in development with Rawson Marshall Thurber writing the pilot. While the project was ultimately scrapped, Crevello (who was set to be showrunner on that version of the show) stayed on the project and redeveloped it with a new concept. According to Deadline, this project is not tied to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, although the movie is set to debut on Netflix this month and is also set in the Forgotten Realms.

Dungeons & Dragons was also featured in an episode of Secret Level, an animated series focused on various game franchises that aired on Amazon Prime. Legendary, meanwhile, is adapting Hasbro's other major fantasy franchise Magic: The Gathering into a movie and TV project.

Whilst I was out this morning I walked past a bookshop and noticed their prime position display was a huge stand of Romantacy. It occurred to me that the D&D show might take this route, possibly stealing a march on the upcoming Fourth Wing TV show. BG3 certainly went there (along with a bunch of other genres). This might mean some nudity. But considering Netflix has an international market, that would only earn it a 15 certificate in the UK, and probably a U in France.

I don't advice nudity. Let's remember the international market. Even an inocent cartoon for preteens "las tres mellizas" (= the triplets) was censored in China and Quatar. Even it may be funnier if the own fandom imagine the possible offscreen shipping and femslash. Several isekai animes are enoughly popular and these don't need to show explicit violence or sex.

I guess the strategy will be to show things easy to be edited to avoid possible troubles with the censorship criteria from other countries.

If the scripwritter is good to insinuate should be better than showing explicitely.

Other future option could be Netflix starting from zero its own fantasy IP but enjoying absolut creative control and this being licenced to WotC.

Not having gratuitous violence, nudity and swearing does not mean it’s aimed at kids. Plenty of adults don’t like that stuff (and plenty of 13 year olds who do).
That's what I call "for imMature Audiences". For example, I enjoyed Vox Machina (the cartoon) in spite of its lowbrow "maturity", not because of it. I'd have liked it more without most of that stuff.
