Well that just confused the hell out of me. I have none idea what’s going on.

I think I need to watch that again.

And I’ll be at UK Games Expo next weekend for the finale. Maybe I can sneak back to the hotel and watch it there…

John and Belinda make a nice couple :) I would have liked to see more of that, exploring their doubt building until the Doctor realises whats really happening rather than them relying on exposition (and then calling it out via the Rani). The idea of family calling the authorities due to doubt is terrifying.

Them fully leaning in to gods and myth is a really big thing, especially since they're bringing back Omega and made reference to Rasillon. I do wonder if the Rani knows who the Other is too and how the Other fits in - is that why Susans back?

I do think this was a bit too much like a Master plan rather than a Rani plan, this was too convoluted for the Rani, who never tried to torture the Doctor, just manipulate him to do things he would refuse to do if asked.

Archie Panjabi did a great performance as a villain though, but I'm not sure if she is differentiated enough from Missy. Nonetheless the dance scene - although a bit out of place - had some nice storytelling built in - were the Doctor and the Rani once lovers? They were schoolmates.

Looking forward to seeing how they manage to reveal (and contain) Omega, explain the giant fossils, save Poppy and wrap things.

Er, what

If a semi intellectual fan like I am, is utterly baffled, no wonder it is losing viewers

I like the new doctor and Belinda is great but the plots are just trying to be too clever, out there or to quote the bard the author is a little up their own ....

That is some seriously deep cuts into Doctor Who lore though. I have no idea who "Omega" is. That kind of came totally out of left field. Some very nice Terry Pratchett references with the Sourcerer - the 7th son of a 7th son of a 7th son. Wizard squared.

But, yeah, to be honest, I could very much do without dredging up forty or fifty year old characters.

If I remember correctly it was Omega who created the power necessary for the Time Lords to travel in time by collapsing a star into a black hole, then got sucked into it himself(?). I think that was Tom Baker doctor years, but, as you say, it's been several decades since I originally saw those shows.

It predates Pratchett by centuries and appears in multiple mythologies across the works. It’s an old folklore thing.

All you need to know is he’s the first Time Lord and he’s a baddie. If it bothers you that he appeared before, just pretend he hasn’t. Even as a new character that basic story works just as well as some other random new character called Caprica or something would.
