Yup, I just mentally give that person a yellow card. And if That Guy won't let up and it happens again, I imagine giving them a red card. And if it happens a third time, well, that's what the Ignore button is for. I eject them from the game.
You know it’s bad when you finally ignore someone and yet you can still tell exactly who people are responding to based on their responses even though you can’t see the actual posts. Some threads become total wastelands in terms of conversation.

That could be a sign that there wasn't actually that much real conversation in the thread to begin with--it might have been one of the dozens of threads where the same handful of people repeat the same arguments to each other, over and over again.

Also, I fully acknowledge that I don't need to be a part of every discussion. Not every thread is written for me.

Like, there is a thread right now with a title of "This Thing Is Awful" (I'm paraphrasing) and it has a ton of pages. Now I happen to enjoy the Awful Thing being discussed, so it took me only a single page to realize I didn't belong there. Sure, I could have let them bait me into responding, then let myself get all worked up and angry, then start ignoring people. Some folks seem to really enjoy this type of discourse.

But the better response is to just disengage and leave. "Woops," I think to myself. "I must have taken a wrong turn, this isn't my neighborhood." Then I make a U-turn and go back to the topics and discussions I actually enjoy.

Me: This is the sort of game I enjoy.
That Guy: No you don't.

Me: And this is what works for my group.
That Guy: No it doesn't.

Me: Here's a house-rule we like.
That Guy: No, you actually don't.

Me: I'm really excited about this project.
That Guy: Stop lying to people, we all know it's awful and everyone hates it.

...seriously, don't be That Guy.
The flip side is The Game Is Perfect Guy.

Me: This is the sort of game I don't enjoy.
TGIPG: You must be the problem because the game is perfect.

Me: And this other game is what works for my group.
TGIPG: That's not possible, that game is trash because it's different from the perfect game.

Me: I'm really excited about this project because it's not that one game.
TGIPG: Stop lying to people, we all know that game is perfect.

Etc.

Don't be The Game Is Perfect Guy, either.
