Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This is my experience too, although that's partially because since you can't buy alcohol at self checkout in California they have to have at least one cashier around. When I lived in Kentucky it was pretty normal for stores to only leave the self check outs open past 10 PM or so.

That's why I suspect part of it may be when I come in; if they only schedule one checker for those periods (with probably someone else who can pinch hit if the lines get too busy) they're just not going to tie up someone with the small-number line that many people visiting won't be able to use (though I've also seen managers temporarily manning that just wave people in, but that always seems to destroy the point in having it open).

I just used "With all due respect" in another thread! But seriously, I just meant to say that "I do not think you are an idiot or an evil person., so please do not take monumental personal offense. I merely believe that you are wrong."

It gets even harder when you're trying to be critical of a position and not the person. With the best of ententions, sometimes you can't express that or its functionally indistinguishable to the other participant.

(Of course occasionally you can run into kind of the opposite situation, where you're defending an argument someone else made even though you generally have thought the other person was annoying, an idiot, or just wrong most of the time. With the tendency in ongoing threads to conflate arguments or participants, that's liable at some point to leave people thinking you're defending things you're not).

My local Walmart started out with an area of 4 express checkouts, laid out horizontally, alongside the regular linear checkouts. Then they added a self checkout section, of maybe 10 stations, on the other side next to the second exit. A while later they turned the express checkouts into another batch of 10 or so self checkout stations. So now there are two sets of self checkouts and a long row of regular checkouts between them. I used to get groceries at around 7:00am on Saturdays when one self checkout section was completely closed, the other one had half or more of the machines disabled, and only 1 or 2 cashiers working the regular registers. This is at what would pretty much be considered a Super Walmart in the US.

I was checking out through the normal checkout, and the cashier marked my tomatoes as organic, I was like no? She said they looked organic, so I said I didn't want them then. Possibly the best of the self-checkout is to not have to deal with people, not that it is perfect or anything.

Which reminds me, @kermit4karate I find you a very compelling person to talk to. I just don't share your vision in the specified topic. Nothing personal. I like you.
Wow. Maybe I'm just gullible, but I'll take that in the spirit that I think it was intended. Thank you! You too! I'm very opinionated, but I genuinely have zero problem disagreeing with people. In my line of work, the people I disagree with the fiercest are the people I cherish the most because they often save me from myself. If you think I'm wrong, never give up!

Have a great weekend! See you around, fellow human! I love your username, BTW.

What makes a tomato "look organic"?
