I'm sure this is going to be an unpopular opinion but it's starting to feel like we can't really celebrate anything outside of our own birthday due to any historical context/after effects. Every holiday seems to have something bad attached to it, at least that's how it feels to me.
I don't know about that. Thanksgiving is still a hugely popular holiday in the US. It's one of the few ones that lots of people still get off. Even some of the poor retail and service drones are lucky enough to be off that day. (Though usually unpaid)

Things change over time though. I think it's both possible to acknowledge our country's checkered past, which still enjoying in cultural traditions.

My favorite holiday really. Just a great meal with family and friends.

I like stuffing and make many kinds like traditional, East coast with clams, White castle burger....

Oh, and cranberry sauce with actual cranberries and not the jello from a can stuff. (though im not put off if folks demand the can stuff as long as I got my real stuff.)
Mine too.

Fall is the best time of year. Comfy sweaters, dark beers, good food.

Plus, we never get to eat turkey and stuffing the rest of the year for some reason. We should have a second Thanksgiving in May, so we don't have to go so long between them.

My in-laws love family get togethers to stuff ourselves with food and play board and card games and Thanksgiving is one of the big two for them. (The other being Christmas Eve.)

I don't think we've ever talked about its historic roots and my kids are fully aware of its problematic nature. Only my mother-in-law and maybe father-in-law still buy into the happy image of it.

This happens to be the reason why I love Halloween... 🤷‍♂️ 🤫

That's too limited a view. I'd like to think that the day of my birth had devastating historical consequences too.

I have a friend who does a month long celebration of Halloween, the decorations at his house are impressive.
What does he do all month? Force the local kids to trick or treat him every day? Hold Halloween costume parties nightly? How does one celebrate Halloween for a month?
