Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Someone needs to get ambitious and bring back Borders, which was an even better experience back in the day.
I liked both, but one thing Borders had over B&N was that they sometimes hosted small concerts. I saw California Guitar Trio, Tony Geballe, and Cerro Negro each performing at different locations of Borders back in the day.

CGT were supporting their Pathways album, using their brand-new Somogyi custom guitars. They sat in a semicircle facing their semicircle of fans separated by a few feet of empty space, and even did a Q&A session.

Yeah, Borders wasn't quite as cool as an actual indie book store, but that was the vibe they were chasing. Even on its best day, Barnes & Noble just feels like a better Waldenbooks.

After so many years of missteps, it was great to see my local B&N start to get good again (starting with not devoting one-third of their floor space to the Nook, long after that ship had sailed). Love to see them coming back. Someone needs to get ambitious and bring back Borders, which was an even better experience back in the day.
I was working at Barnes & Noble about 15 years ago and the importance they were putting on the Nook was nuts. Especially because I worked at a college book store they'd recently bought, so 99.9% of the people who came in just wanted to buy their textbooks and leave. Made worse because they had us all in Nook Study t shirts, telling us to really talk up Nook Study as vitally important for the college experience, but none of our textbooks worked with Nook Study. When I asked if we were supposed to lie to people about that the manager said "No, but do your best not to mention it."

Woof.

I hope they're one of the people who left.

Off work now until after the new year... All of my coworkers were talking about sleeping for three days straight when they got home.
I was honest with myself, and said I was probably going to stay up for three days straight playing video games... :p
My wife has decided we're going to be playing a lot of World of Warcraft. I may have to sneak around to actually work on publishing something for DMs Guild. ;)
