I liked both, but one thing Borders had over B&N was that they sometimes hosted small concerts. I saw California Guitar Trio, Tony Geballe, and Cerro Negro each performing at different locations of Borders back in the day.Someone needs to get ambitious and bring back Borders, which was an even better experience back in the day.
CGT were supporting their Pathways album, using their brand-new Somogyi custom guitars. They sat in a semicircle facing their semicircle of fans separated by a few feet of empty space, and even did a Q&A session.
